Oklahoma rifles for deer season, hogs and predators

Deer gun season, which traditionally opens the Saturday before Thanksgiving and runs sixteen days, sells more rifles in Oklahoma than anything else. What you need depends on which side of I-35 you hunt. Out west, over wheat stubble and short-grass pasture, a scoped .270, 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 handles shots past 250 yards. In the wooded hills of the east a .30-30 lever gun or a short .308 is quicker in the oak and cedar. Feral hogs on private land have no season and no limit, coyotes keep callers busy all winter, and a .22 rimfire takes care of squirrels and cans.
